Faculty and Staff Social

Eat, drink,  and be merry! This is the faculty and staff celebratory kick off for the academic year! It’s more than a social, it is an opportunity to  spend quality time with the our campus partners in a casual setting. This event includes: live entertainment, food and beverage sampling and overall showing off the BEST of what Flat Tuesday’s has to offer. The winners of the annual office decorating competition will also be announced during the event! Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Catch the Fever in Flat Tuesdays! 

Attendees must be a current or former faculty, staff, alumnus/a, or students of UMBC and must present their RED CARD & VALID Government ID upon entry to Flat Tuesday’s (alumni will only need a government issued ID). All guests must be 21 years or older, bring a valid, government-issued photo ID and must be accompanied by a red card Holder (alumni exception noted). Campus card or cash are the only accepted methods of payment.

Poetry Slam_SquareBig Prize Poetry SLAM!
6-8 p.m., Performing Arts and Humanities Building Atrium

Slam BIG and Win BIG at the third annual Poetry Slam hosted by the English Department! You won’t want to miss this event! A 1st prize of $200 will go to the winner of this dazzling high-energy slam. 2nd and 3rd prizes, too, for students and alumni sharing their original work, judged by students, alumni, faculty and staff. Help us put the performing in the new Performing Arts and Humanities Building! You can also help put unwanted books into the hands of those who want them. Bring a book to donate to the Book Thing’s book drive!

To participate in the slam, submit a print and video version of no more than five minutes of original poetry to HomecomingSlam@gmail.com no later than September 22. Entries will be judged on their poetic effects, compelling content and on video performance. All UMBC students and alumni are eligible. R

UMBC completed construction on Phase II of the new Performing Arts & Humanities Building this summer. We invite you to tour the new building and visit the Concert Hall, Dance Cube, Theatre, and other spaces in the campus’ newest and largest building. Homecoming Carnival

Catch Retriever Fever at a FREE community carnival where there is something for everyone! Enjoy rides, inflatables, games and booths, food trucks*, funnel cake *, freebies and giveaways, student organization tabling and an alumni hospitality tent. At the alumni hospitality tent, you can enjoy refreshments, beer and wine (cash bar for 21 and over only), giveaways, Homecoming t-shirt to the first 350 alumni guests, learn about alumni association initiatives and/or participate in alumni reunions. If you would like to organize an alumni reunion or gathering during the tent hours, contact us at homecoming@umbc.edu. R

2nd Annual Homecoming Kickball Kup – Alumni vs. Students

Do you have what it takes to be the ultimate kickball champion?! Join fellow UMBC students and alumni as we kick it old school for a rousing game of kickball on Erickson Field. Everyone and all kickball skill levels are welcome. Free t-shirts while supplies last. The winning team will also receive a commemorative medal. It’s not a party without delicious crabs, great friends, and entertainment. Back by popular demand, this Crab Feast includes an all-you-can-eat buffet including Maryland blue crabs; homemade Maryland crab and cream of crab soups; beef, turkey, and ham carving stations; BBQ chicken, Italian sausage, pulled pork, baked ziti, corn on the cob, potato salad and much more. A cash bar will also be available.

There will also be a live performance by Fiddlin’ Around, an Irish folk band featuring UMBC’s own staff and faculty members. Get your tickets by Wednesday, September 24 for a discounted rate of $40 per person and $20 per child (ages 4-11). After September 24, registration will increase to $45 for adults. At the door (space permitting), tickets will increase to $50 for adults and $25 for children. This event is free for children 4 and under. R, $

RATT Reunion_Square5th Annual RATT Reunion – Hosted by the CBLA
8:30 p.m. – Midnight, Flat Tuesdays, The Commons

If you’ve never partied at the RATT….then you’ve never really partied before! The Chapter of Black and Latino Alumni presents the 5th Annual RATT Reunion – the premier UMBC Homecoming throwback party featuring – DJ Rusty V, DJ Romeo, and Nasty Man DJ Neal Conway.  Registration fee is $15 by 9/22 and includes 2 complimentary drink tickets. After 9/22, the fee is $15 until 10/8 and $20 onsite.  We anticipate MAX capacity so register early!  Registration includes heavy hors d’oeuvres with punch. Heavy Seas brand beer, wine, and soda available for purchase – cash only.  Guests must be 21 and over and bring valid government issued photo ID. R, $
